Yosemite 

The giant sequoias are the most impressive trees I have ever seen. They are enormous, reaching up to 300 feet and they live up to 3000 years. Imagine how exciting it can be to stand next to a tree that was alive when Nero set fire to Rome and when Jesus was born. They were already there – they know it all.

These trees need lots of moisture to survive and also need fire in order to reproduce. The park set controlled fires to the area, to prepare the seed beds where the sequoias of year 5000 will live. These trees  can only be found in California. I recommend the visit!

As cecoias gigantes sao as arvores mais impressionantes que eu ja vi na minha vida. Elas chegam a quase 100 metros de altura e vivem 3000 anos. Imagine a magica de estar frente a frente com arvores que estavam vivas quando Nero botou fogo em Roma e quando Cristo nasceu. Essas arvores ja viram de tudo!

Essas “arvorezinhas” precisam de muita agua para sobreviver e precisamd e fogo para se reproduzir, por isso, O Yosemite organisa fogos controlados para preparar o solo para as sementes conseguirem germinar e produzir as cecoias adultas do ano 5000. As cecoias gigantes so sao encontradas na California. Eu recomendo a visita!

Look at the park - there are around 500 sequoias living here Da so uma olhadinha nesse parque. Ha pelo menos 500 dessas arvores gigantes vivendo aqui!

 Essa e a raiz de uma cecoia gigante que caiu depois de alguns milhares de anos vivendo no Yosemite. Essas arvores nao apodrecem, nem enquanto vivas, nem depois de mortas. O tamanho e realmente impressionante!

These are the roots of the giant sequoia. This tree died after a couple thousand years. One interesting characteristic of these trees is the fact they do not rot. Not when they are alive, or after they die. Their size is impressive!

The sequoias can survive even when their centre is damaged. The tree can send food and nutrients up to the top and the leaves without passing through the centre. As cecoias sobrevivem mesmo sem o centro da arvore, por que elas tem um sistema que leva comida para o tronco e as folhas sem passar pelo centro da arvore.

 Esse e o caminhao que nos leva parque afora, visitando as cecoias mais famosas This is the truck that takes turists around the park, introducing us to the biggest trees

 Essa arvore tem um tunel imenso cavado no seu tronco Look at the size of this man made tunnel . the sequoia does not seem to mind!

 E essa "canivetada" de 1929? bem no meio da crise economica...kkk And look at this carving...it dates 1929! Right in the middle of the economic crisis...
