Dia das mães/ Mother's Day

A mãe ganhou chocolates e flores. Ficou bem feliz a mãe!

+++++++

She was given flowers and chocolates and she was very happy about it.
They were all going out for dinner, but her younger kid, who is 16, feel asleep and did not want to go out.
The older kid and her dad went out for dinner - and the mother stayed home, in case her youngster woke up.
Matherhood is forever...

LIA

Hoje a minha filha fez 16 anos.
Te desejo toda a felicidade do mundo.

Today my daughter turned 16 . I remember so vividly,  the day she came into this world. So small , so beautiful , her eyes so expressive . Lia carried in her a thousand lives.
I remember putting my hand on her belly when she cried  and that would make all her afflictions go away. Time passed , the pains changed , and a mother's hand ceases to be miraculous, Unfortunately !
I remember every smile in her childhood , every cute thing she said, every expression. I remember the sweetness with which she always treated others, and how loyal and dedicated of a  friend she has always been.
I remember her wanting to cut her hair to donate to a friend who had cancer and would lose her's to chemo.
I remember her crossing an avenue , packed with 400 war tanks coming from Saudi to calm friend who was scared . She was 12. And did not fear for her life.
I remember the endless laughter and so many first experiences.
Her first night ,  first bath ,  first feeding ,  first smile ,  first baby food , the first stinky poop ( poop from breast milk is not stinky ! ) , The first trips ,  first wave she jumped ,  first dive at sea , the first snorkel ... so many experiences , so many discoveries ...
But the clock does not stop  and my little girl is now a young woman .
A gorgeous soul who brings within her the same sweetness of her childhood . She carries in her heart the music of  a thousand angels .
My little girl , I'll always be by your side . I'll always be with you and I  want to be in the front row of all your achievements .
I wish you all the happiness in the world. A life full of new experiences and magic .

The world is no doubt a better place with you !

I will love you forever and I'm very proud of the wonderful person you have become !

Gemeas / Twins

+++++++

Remember those girls I always mention? One is 17 and the other one is 15. Another day, they decided to go to the movies and only when they got there, they realized the movie was rated 17 and up.
The older kid did not even blink:
- hi! My sister and I are twins - but she forgot her ID. You can check mine though...
- Sorry, I need to call the manager.
The manager comes, look at them and says:
- It is pretty obvious you are twins...please come in!

O sumiço / the disappearance

I just came over to say I really miss being here, but once again Lia is not well and has been in and out of hospitals since December. Yep, same old, same old. Her stomach is driving us all crazy!
So, get your best wishes out and start sending this family some positive energy, some prayers and all good things you can come up with.
And if anyone happens to know Heaven's ombudsmen contacts, please send them to me, I need to ask for a review of our case.

No parque / At the park

++++++

We were at the park when a mum arrived with her lil boy. He would be no oledr than 2 years old. As sson as they arrived he declared he needed to pee.
The mother, annoyed said ina  harsh tone:
- Are you kidding me?
And the boy:
- No. I am not kidding...

A wish i could take him home.

Adolescencia / teens

My daughter comes home from school all embarrassed today.
- Mum, you won't believe what i have done!
and she continues, on the same breath...
- I was texting a friend from Bahrain in class ( ??) and told her how cute is this guy in my class. Then I decided to take a pic and send her, so she could see it for herself. We all know I am a bit clumsy, so I checked if the sound was off on my mobile, then I put on the earphone, to make sure i would not make a fool of myself in front of everyone. Then I got him in a close and click! the flas was on. The flash was ON, mum!
I am sooo embarrassed!

And all I could think about was: texting un class? Shouldn t you be learning something instead? Is it even allowed  Where was the darn teacher?
I guess I totally missed the point here...

Passou tão rápido!! It was so fast

Filhos crescem rapido demais!

Yesterday she was just a baby, wearing cute pony tails and hiding her lil toys in her school bag.
Today she is driving everywhere, creating her own path.
Kids grow up far too quickly!

Filhos / Kids

Another one from the Middle East.
I know a western woman married to a Saudi Millionaire. When they were newly weds, he used to say to her:
- If you divorce me, I will keep the kids.
And she would reply sweetly:
- darling, let ME tell you something. If I divorce you, you WILL keep the kids.
And their marriage already had it's 20th anniversary.

BURROS! STUPID

Eu fui motoqueira ( quer ler?

I was a biker until my first pregnancy ( story here), when my dad had enough, sold my bike and forbid me to ride with his grand-kid in my belly.
But I always took the helmet thing seriously.
Imagine my surprise when i find out it is not mandatory to wear a helmet in Arizona. I would not expect it from the most remote place on Earth, let alone an American state.
But it is true!! I swear.

Anita me perguntou outro dia:
- Vc vai me deixar ter moto?
- Nunca!
- Mas você teve!
- Anita, isso é completamente irrelevante. Eu não era minha filha. Você é. Fim.

One of these days Anita asked me:
- Mum, can I be a biker?
- No way in hell.
- But YOU were.
- Yeah, but I am not my daughter. You are - and you can't. End of the story.

- Eu acho certo. Precisamos muito de doadores de orgãos.
Aí pensei melhor e me lembrei que é pura seleção natural...

Still complaining about the stupidity of the non compulsory helmet, I heard from my chiropractor:
- We need organ donors in Arizona. Let them donate!
And after that I decided it is just natural selection...

E ela cresceu... and she grew up!

Anita woke up super early and called me to take her to do her written test at the traffic department.
Different from yesterday, everything run smoothly today and in less than an hour we were all done.
And she passed with flying colours - only got ONE answer wrong, and only because next to her, was an illiterate person, doing a verbal test - in Spanish!
In the evening, we went out for pizza to celebrate her permit!
From now on, she can drive a car anywhere, any time, as long as she has a fully licensed adult next to her.
After dinner, we let her drive Fabio's car. She has a long way to go, until she can actually confidently drive, but i was impressed how careful and attentive she was during the drive.
The problem now is to admit she is a big girl now. She is conquering the world - one day at the time.

Not sure i am happy with it.
Can I forbid her to grow up?

Meu Mexicaninho / My lil Mexican

Photo: Eu e meu amor!!!

A mãe tinha dito "talvez". O Pai tinha dito "outro dia".
Esperto que só ele, ele me diz:
- Tia, vamos no parque?
- Ah meu amor, quem sabe disso é o seu pai. É ele quem manda!
- Não é não. É a mamãe quem manda. É sempre a mulher quem manda.

Chat with Joca has been one of the best things I have done in Mexico.

- Aunty, aunty, do you know your daughter's names?
...
He wanted to tell me he knew them too. Cute!

The evening I arrived, he wanted to go to an entertainment park. His mother said "maybe", his dad said "we will go another day".
Trying to recruit support to his cause he tried his luck:
- Aunty, do you want to go to the park?
- It is up to your dad Joca. He is the boss.
- No. It is up to my mum. The woman is always the boss. When your daughters grow up, they will be their husband's and sons bosses.
After that we all went to the park! No more arguments.

I was on the phone, talking to Fabio when Elder come running down the stairs.
Later he told me Joca went to call him:
- Dad, come to talk to your sister's husband on the phone.
Elder was afraid something had happened to his family. It never crossed his mind I was the sister...

- Aunty, we are going to the beach on saturday.
- Are we?
- Yes, I had a test and did very well on shapes and colors...

After a long stomachache phase, Lia comes home with Mononucleosis and another 5 weeks off school.
On an ordinary conversation, Fabio is about to ask her a  question:

Lia, do you have ... do you have...
And I reply more than quickly: - Mononucleosis!!

She swears she will lick all the spoons in the house. Now one can only wait for the consequences...

sábado, maio 18

Lia

Lia grew up complaining there was never anything for her to eat, and when I asked her what would she like, so I could go out and buy it, the answer was always the same:
- there is nothing for me to eat in this country!!!

I hope she finds USA food selection satisfactory!

E Deus ouviu as minhas preces! God listened to my prayers

Eu pedi que Deus me mandasse duas filhas bonitas.

... E Deus ouviu as minhas preces!

I am the only child and never really grasped the concept of sibling rivalry, so when i was pregnant and asking God for the normal things ( health mainly), I added an extra request:
I asked God to send me two pretty girls. Or two ugly ones. But I would not know how to handle one of each.

And God answered my prayers...

Racismo ás avessas / racism upside down

 Filha chega em casa:
- Mãe! Mãe! O fulano me pediu em namoro.
- Vc aceitou?

++++++++++++++++++

Teen daughter gets home:
- Mum! Mum! A guy from school asked me out
- Did you accept?
- Nope, but now he is saying i don't want to go out with him because he is black. What do I do??
- Whatever you do, don't go out with him just because he is black!

Trovão é so barulho...
Anita: ah! é mesmo!

Adolescentes...

Anita walks into Lia's room

Anita: It's raining cats and dogs outside!
Lia: I know, it's opening my windows.
Anita: The thunder?!:O
Lia: ..Not the thunder, thunder's just a sound...
Anita: Ah. Yes. That it is.

Priceless!

Simultaneamente / Simultaneously

Em Fênix

O casal acorda apressado.
Ver casa. Assinar contrato do novo negocio. Ver escolas. Checar preços de móveis. Carros.
Enquanto ele ainda faz alguns questionamentos, ela liga pra filha no Golfo.
Eu to bem. sob.
- Quem chamou a ambulância?
- Bem. sob. sob. sob
- Fica bem meu amor.

Encontrou a bendita perdida e a levou prá  casa. A tempo. Graças a Deus.

Descem. Pedem qualquer coisa para poder usar a internet.
O auto falante começa a anunciar as promoções do dia.

A empregada atende o telefone chorando. Ela não sabe o que aconteceu. A madame desmaiou, infartou, ambulancia veio, levaram a menina.

Ela desliga o telefone exausta.

In Phoenix

The couple wakes up in a hurry. It will be a long day. They have a thousand things to do during these few days they are spending in U.S. before definitely moving to Phoenix in two months.
She is busy, trying to plan the day. The list of things to do is long:
Look for houses. Signing lots of paperwork. Check on schools.  Check prices of furniture. Cars. Open bank account.
Her thoughts are interrupted by his phone ringing.
- Hi love! (He speaks in Portuguese)
She lifts her ear to see who he's talking to.She knows it can only be two people. He does not call anyone else "love". She wants to know which of the two is calling him so early. She is curious.
- What? How? When? Are you sure? How do you know? Ok, ok.Your mother will call them.
She stopped her guessing game and jumped out of bed. Something was wrong. She knew it.
- What is it?
- Anita (their eldest daughter - is 16 years old) said Priscilla (fictitious name) had a heart attack.
- Impossible. I just received an e mail from her, saying that everything is fine over there.
- Anita read about it on facebook.
The couple has two daughters, but they are temporarily living in different countries . One in Brazil, the younger one (14 years) in the Middle East with the parents. She is currently staying with Priscilla, while her parents go on their exploratory trip.
While he talks about what may have happened, she calls her child in the Gulf.
- I'm at  Paula's home (fictitious name). sob. I'm fine. sob. The ambulance was lost. sob. I ran and found it. sob. the paramedics said a few more minutes and she would have died. sob. I'm fine. sob. she's in the hospital. sob.
She tries to put her thoughts in order. It seems like Priscila really had a heart attack. In their home. Maybe even in front of her kid.
- Who called the ambulance?
-  Priscilla did. sob. and lay down on the floor. sob. the ambulance took 40 minutes. sob. and was lost.sob. I ran down the street and found it. sob. she's in hospital now. sob. everybody went there. sob.
- Who is with you?
Paula's kids. sob

- How are you?
- I am fine. sob.sob
She quickly thanked God, the universe and the destiny that her daughter was able to run down the street and find the ambulance. Thanked God for Priscilla's life, for her being in a good hospital, being well cared for.
But she also cursed and complained.  Why now? Why just now that she is away? Why now when her daughter is alone at home? Whyyyyy?
- Take care my love. You were a hero. I'm so proud! You were so brave today. No one could have done better.
And that was true.
Paula's daughter comes to the phone and reassures her. They say  Lia is well, they are taking care of her, they will stay together to take care of each other. They are 15 and 18 yearsold. These girls are very special.
She knows  her daughter is in good hands. It is a relief.

A few more phone calls and the situation becomes clear.
Priscilla felt ill. She called Paula's maid and asked someone to fetch Lia as she was not feeling well, then she called the hospital and organized the ambulance. Only after that was all done, she lay on the floor and waited to be rescued.

The ambulance got lost, Lia run down the street, found them and gave them directions.Just in time. Thank God.
Now Priscilla is in the ICU, stable and the doctors are doing all the tests to clarify what really happened. All we can do is wait.

She tries to change her ticket and return to the Middle East, maybe she can help.
She fails. The airline says all flights are fully booked.

She is late for their first appointment of the day, but remembers  it was their other daughter who called to alert them of what happened, so she quickly puts the lap top in the car and head to the meeting with the girls'future school. She is sad, but there is nothing she can do from the distance.

After the meeting, they look for a Coffee Shop with wifi to call Brazil. She needs to talk to their older daughter, calm her, give her an update. She needs totalk to her parents and parents in law, explain what is happening.
They find a starbucks inside a supermarket. That will do. She ask for anything, just to to be able to use the internet.
The supermarket speaker begins to announce the promotions of the day. The  flow of supermarket customers make an infernal noise. She goes into the bathroom. TO THE BATHROOM, see if the connection works there. The signal is strong, and from inside the bathroom she calls her daughter, who has a red nose and a puffy face. Must have cried a lot. They talk a bit, she tries to calm her daughter. Customers and employees of the supermarket do not understand why she is standing, yelling at her lap top in a foreign language. Everyone looks confused, nobody says anything.
She hangs up. She calls her father and explains what happened. She's lucky, her father did not know anything yet - she was not anxious or nervous. She managed to avoid it.
She disconnects  and calls her father in law.
- hello! I am calling to explain what is going on in our house,  in the Gulf, so you guys will not worry.
- We already know. Anita has told us. Your friend died in your home. In front of Lia.
She freezes. She thinks of the anguish they must have endured, thinking that his 14 year old granddaughter  witnessed a death, while alone, in the other side of the world. She clarifies the misunderstanding. The father in law sounds relieved. She relaxes a bit and feels glad she made the call.
People are still glaring at her, and must find that there is something very wrong going on in there,  because more and more people enter the bathroom to see her. Even a man walks in, looks at her, shakes his head and when he is completely ignored by her, he turns his back, exits the ladies bathroom looking unhappy.

The day goes by. They attends meetings and fulfill all their commitments. From time to time they call to find out what are the developments in the Gulf, how is Priscilla's health. And how is their kid.

At night, he reminds her they did not talk to the maid at all. He asks her to call home.
The maid answers the phone crying. She does not know what happened.
- Madame fainted, heart attack, ambulance came, someone took the girl.
The maid did not know anything. She seemed to be more frightened than all others involved.

She explains  Priscilla was stable but still in the hospital undergoing tests. The maid wants to know where Lia is. She explains Lia is still a bit shaken but okay, given the circumstances.
The maid seems to calm down a bit.
She asks if everything is Ok. If there is enough food in the house, if she needs anything, and asks her maid not to leave the house, even if Lia  and Priscilla do not return. The puppy needs company and attention too.

She hangs up exhausted. And hope to have good dreams, because the day was the longest ever!
