Gifts / presentes

Funeral do meu tio. Familia toda reunida.

My uncle's funeral. All family present.
Suddenly my phone starts beeping.
- Aunt, thank you for the necklace.
- Cousin, I really like the gidt.
- Ná, I really like the lil dress you sent to my kid ( this message came from the daughter of the deceased)
My mum, who is a very practical person, decided to take the "opportunity" of having the family together and decided to deliver all the lil gifts I sent with her when she came to visit

minha mãe / my mum

- Ah! Não fiz. Reciclei todas as latinhas de alcool.

My mum is coming to work with me every day, and she helps a lot.
Today i specifically needed help with some chips bags and asked her if she could come and make them.
A few minuets before I had to get them delivered, i went to check on her progress:
- Mum, where are the chips bags?
- What chips bags?
-The ones I asked you to make.
- I decided to do something else... look, I recycled all the sternos...

????

- Mum, I already told my two friends in Spain you are going there. Here are their contact numbers - if you need anything, you can contact them. They also said if you want any travel tips, they will be happy to help.
- Do you have their e mails?
- No. But I gave you their facebook contacts.
- I don't find it elegant to ask for travel tips on facebook...

Minha mãe é fogo! My mum is a hard case

- Oi mae!

To enxergando bem...

me abracei pra enxurrada de reclamações e esperei

++++++

- Hey mum, how is your eye - she had a surgery done about 3 weeks ago

- It is good. I can see well now.

- Are you driving yet?

- No. I only had surgery on wednesday...

As soon as she said It I knew what was coming. She probably got her other eye fixed and

was pissed off with me. Big time. I embraced myself for the river of complains I knew

where coming my way

- I could have died/ You don't care/ you don't give a dam/ I was very, very upset about it/

I know I can't count with anyone/ and I don't care if you care or not!

- Mum, do you want me to help pay for your therapy?

maybe - just maybe, she will let me know she has seurgery booked next time she decides to

do it!

Minha mãe / My mum

-Mãe, compra um evangelho segundo o espiritismo e me manda?
Todas!

E eu vou ficar sem o livro...

++++++++

- Mum, can you buy me the spiritualist's bible?
- No. I hate religion. ask your dad.
- YOU don't need to like it. The book is for me. Go to the shop, buy it, ask them to wrap it, so you don't even have to look at it.
- No. I hate religion. All of them!

And no book for me...

Coisas de Dona Cirlei! That's my mom...

- Cirlei??!!
- Eu estou aqui!
- Onde?
- Aqui no quarto - no escuro!
?????
Suspense resolvido.
- Lia, eu ESTOU no lap top!!!! E tenho um tablet também...

Fiquei uns 20 minutos rindo sozinha.

++++++++++++++++++++

I was talking to my mom on skype, with the cameras on, but I saw nothing.
Then she asks:
- Can you see me?
- No.
After fluffing around for a while, I concluded it was probably a problem with the connection and I let go. The sound was good, we could just talk.
A while later, my dad comes home and calls:
- Cirlei?!
- I'm here!
- Where?
- Here in the bedroom - in the dark!
???
Mystery solved. I could not see her because she was in the dark!
- Mom, why are you in the dark?
- Because the light bulb burnt out (and I could see her mentally wondering how I could be so stupid and ask such imbecile questions)
- And why don't you get it changed?
- Because your father doesn't  want to call the insurance, so I'll wait for him to go to work tomorrow and have someone from the insurance company come here and fix it.
I must have left Brazil  too long ago, but here no one calls the insurance to replace light bulbs.
I don't think about it again and continue the conversation
Shortly after, my daughter enters the room, asks why the grandmother has her camera off, then asks why her grandmother is in the dark and as she finds the intriguing answers, she questions once again:
- Is it only your room in the dark, or will you wait for the insurance company to come and change the bulbs throughout the house?
- Only in my room
- Grandma, why don't you get the lap top and go to the living room??
- Lia, I'm using the lap top!! And I have a tablet too ...

I was laughing about 20 minutes alone. Thankfully, my mother was good sport and did not get upset with me.

Eles bebem. Ela só tem 16 anos.
- Verdade, mas eles tem mais de 40 anos. São meus amigos...

As vezes o tempo passa e a gente não nota! Tudo ficticiamente, claro.

+++++++++++++++++

Fiction. Fictional family. Fictional characters.
- Mum, let the girl go out with these people, they are cool.
- No! They drink. She is only 16.
- True. but THEY are over 40 now. They can drink.

Sometimes time flies by and we do not notice...

A Dona Cirlei voltou/ Mrs ramalho is back!

Minha mãe ficou afastada do blog dela um tempão. Estava sumida e vira e mexe alguém me perguntava a razão do sumiço.
Resolvi ajudar. Por que, meo deos, por quee?
- Mãe, qual o problema?
- Não acho a página onde escrever o post
- Você está no seu blog? Você entrou?
- Entreeeeei. Claro.
- Mãe, clica em "log in"
- ok
Respiro fundo.
- ENTREI!
- Que bom, o que você está vendo?
- A minha página.
- E o lápis? tem lápis?
- Tem
- Clica nele.

Principalmente se for a minha!!

*******************************
My mother was away from her blog  for a long time. From time to time, people ask me why she stopped writing on her blog.
This week I found out she did not know how to get back into her blog, and decided to help.
- Mom, what's wrong?
- I can't find the page where I  write the post
-Are you on your blog? Are you in?
- I sure am.
- What address did you use to login?
- Www. amantikir.com
- This is neither the address of your blog or your e mail .
- Ohh.
- What is your e mail access?
- Do I have an e mail? I think I don't.
Oh God of infinite wisdom, help me! I take a deep breath:
- Mother How did you get into your blog?
- I do not know.
- Tell me what you can see ...
She describes her screen and I realize she was on her page, but had not logged in. She was only a reader.
I try to explain what she needs to do. I look at the clock. 1 am.
- Mother, click "log in"
- Ok
- Where is it written "e mail", write the blog's e mail addressS
he is silent  for a while and I know she does not know which one is her blog's e mail and  while she thinks she's making a  mess, clicking on everything, trying to find out what to do.
Luckily I remember her blog e mail and I decide it is a better idea to try to retrieve her password, than let her do it herself.
I'm a genius!! And it is only 2 am.
- Mum, log in with your e mail
- There is no page to log in
-  Go back to the initial page, click in log in...
- There is no place to click in log in
I take a deep breath. It is clear to me, her attempts to find her way, really, really messed it all up. Oh joy...
She doesn't  know where she is, can not explain what she is seeing and I assume she still madly trying to click on everything she sees, to "make it work"!
I spent over half an hour trying to explain where to put the page address and trying to describe where the sidebar of the page was, so she could  make the page's content go up and down, so we can find the damn icon to "log in"
Out of the blue she screams:
- I am in!
-  That's good, what you're seeing?
- My page.
- And the pencil? Do you have a  pencil?
- Yes, I do
- Click on it.
- No. I have a  pencil here on my desk. not in my computer
I take another deep breath, kick the nightstand to release some anxiety and go back to work:
- Mom, you are not in
- I am in. From outside.
I decided it was better not to ask what that meant. The clock goes on: TIC TAC TIIC TAAC TICCCC TACCCC
- Mum, stop playing around and do what I say. Only what I say. can you?
 - OKAY
And I know she keeps playing ...
- MOTHER!
Stop doing stuff and just do what I say. Nothing else! Got it?
- Got it
- And will do as you are told?
Silence ...
...Another half hour goes. It is already 3 am.Mum, I have to go to sleep. Tomorrow I'll try to help you.
- Got it! I am in! and I did it all by myself!!
I hung up, swore between greeted teeth and went to bed. I deserve a good night sleep..The AMANTIKIR is back, if you know Portuguese, go check it out! :-)

Talking to a friend, he was amazed by the fact my mum and I fight through our blogs, in public.
All I could do was laugh, and thank God for modern technology.
When I went to Brazil, last year, one of my best friends decided to introduce me to her new boyfriend, and to give him some descriptive information, she said:
- We know each other for many years now. And if you think she is feisty, you should have seen her 20 years ago.
I laughed. She continued:
- We went out for dinner and chose a nice expensive restaurant. While we were still choosing the wine, they got into a fight.
I did not remember, but kept quiet...
- Man, were they loud? And the worse part was to see the prawns we orderd flying over the table...
I laughed my head off. I am sure my mum will deny it, but all strugle within this story  is the concept of throwing praws... the yelling seems perfectly possible to me!

domingo, abril 15

Me lembro de quando a minha mae estava tentando me alfabetizar.
B + A = BA
B + E = BE
E eu odiava aquilo.
Voce aprendeu.
Ai me deu o maior remorso e eu confessei:

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I remember when my mother was trying to teach me how to read. She would repeat ad eternum the letter combinations, expecting me to rememmber.
B + A = BA
B + E = BE
I hated it. Big time.
One day I we were driving in front of a shop and I read it's name : BAU!
She was so happy for my achievement, I felt guilty and confessed:
- Mum, i did not read it, I just recognised that word.
- But that's reading, Inaie.
I thought that was the most unfair task in the whole world. How could I memorise all words in the world? I was devastated...

Doncovim III - A moto/ Therapy - my bike

Agora me responde, ela pegava pesado ou nao pegava?
- Ok.
Desligamos
Liguei de volta. A secretaria dele atendeu
- Oi.
- nao precisa nao. So da o recado.
- Pai?
- Quebrou o chifre, Inaie?
- Quebrei.
- E agora?
- To indo pro Vera Cruz ( hospital), a ambulancia ja esta vindo. Alguem tem que ir me buscar.
A moto deu perda total. Meu pai ficou tres dias sem falar comigo. Minha mae foi me buscar no hospital - eu so quebrei a perna ( e fiquei 5 meses engessada).
Passou dias sem ir me ver, eu so o via passando na porta do meu quarto. Chamava e ele nao respondia. No terceiro dia eu chamei e ele veio.
- Pai?
- Fala
- Pai, nao vende a minha moto?

In the last session, in the last post, I was  my second year at university. I was 18, transfered my course to night shift, got myself a job because my dad did not want to give me a bike.
My first job was in sales for a 3M distributor.
A few months later, the company's best sales person left the business, my boss gave me her clients and the task to keep them.
I fought hard, I called everyone, I did my best and Iused all weapons I knew.Less than a week later I received a job offer from the company where she had gone. Sao Judas ( that was the company name)  was the largest distributor of 3 M abrasives. I was headhunted at the age of 19. There was only a little problem - their office was in Piracicaba. I lived in Campinas 75 km awayI took the job and for a few months I woke up super early, went from Campinas to Piracicaba (by bus), came back and went straight to university. I got home super late, just to start it all over again the next morning. When I started my evening course, also decided to enrol and have an university degree. She chose tourism - on the same campus, in the same building where I was studying jornalism.
Tell me if you think she played an easy game...
For the next three years I had my mother as a colleague at university. When I finally got enough money to buy my bike, my father came to me:- I heard you will buy the bike.- Yep.- You saved up enough money?- Yep.- Let me see your bank account statement.I showed it to him. He looked sad.- I will pay for it. I did not want you to have it, let me pay ...
The deal was simple. He would give me the bike.I had to get my driver's license and wear a helmet.
He bought the bike in a nearby town, it was deliverd to our house by truck. It was gorgeous!
Her name was Emilia.
I called my dad to let him know the bike had arrived.
- Don't leave home.- OkWe hung upI called back. His PA answered.
- Hi! Please tell my father I changed my mind, I'm going out on the bike did.- Talk to him, Inaie, he is here.- I don't need to talk to him. Please just pass on the message, please.
I went out to buy a helmet (no, I had no helmet). And the driving lessons were so bad I could do 8 around the cones, but did not know how to change gear and I could not stop the bike. As it would happen
, I hit a car at a busy intersection. As soon as I got help, I asked to use a phone.- Hello, mom?- Wait. Talk to your dad.
Yes, as soon as  my father got the message he drove home. He worked in Sao Paulo, we lived in Campinas ( 120 km).
When I called home he was already there.- Dad?- Crashed already, Inaie?- Yep.- What now?- I am going to  Vera Cruz (hospital), the ambulance is already on it's way. Someone has to pick me up there. The bike was totaled. My father didn't talk to me for three days. My mom picked me up from hospital the same day - I just broke my leg (and I was 5 months in a cast). When I was still wearing the splint on my leg and could not move, my dad avoided coming into my room. He spent days without going to see me, I just saw him passing in front of my bedroom and going to his.I called and he did not answer. On the third day I called and he came.- Dad?- Hum?- Dad,  please don't sell my bike.- You want to kill yourself kill yourself - I do not want anything to do with it ...He left the room again. The bike was insured, the insurance paid and I went back to biking ... or should i say I learned to be a biker?

No dia seguinte me arrastou para outro cabelereiro e mandou "consertar"o estrago.

Se lembrar eu to ferrada...

Anita has just opened her own blog and now my mother decided to co-write this one ... what have I done to deserve it?
Yesterday she caught me on SKYPE to say my father is very upset because I said she was 18 and he was 20 when I was born.LIES!! ALL LIES!! She was 19 and he was 21 years old.Sorry I deceived you.Since the SKYPE conversation yesterday, I received three emails from her scolding rectifying the information placed here.As I am a journalist, I cherish people's right to respond, so I will publish her three  emails here, in full.

First email:You never lived in SP when you were a baby ... only when you were in my tummy ...
We were in Aguas de Lindoia for a few days at  grandma Ninha's  house. From there we went straight to Grandma's Lide farm in Serra Negra. Four months after you were born, your father picked us up and brought us both to Campinas.I gave you your first bath when you were four months and I was still scared to death to let you slip and die by drowning in the plastic baby bath ... At the farm, your grandmother bathed you in a huge metal bowl where you and both dogs used to lie in the sun ( not at the same time - it was either you or the dogs)

Your father grounded you, but worst, grounded me too. Your uncle had finally convinced your dad to spend three days at his farm. After the first night, you got drunk, we drove back home the very next morning.
.I was not always just playing with you. Sometimes I tried to cook beans for your dad's lunch, but I always burnt it. Your dad never got mad at me ...  he was very tolerant back then ...Your memories awaken my memories too ...

Second and mail

I am losing my memory ... I do not remember your hair being so long it reached your butt ... But I remember when you went to have a hair cut by yourself and disgraced all your hair in a modern cut  .... I almost died!I also  don't remember your father not wanting to give you the bike. I remember  I did not want to do it! I rather die than give you a bike, but your dad told me to go and buy you one anyway.
I also remember when you were working and called me complaining of  your boss or your job, I would say: - Quit! The salary you make I can give you as pocket money...

But you never quit.
I remember you spent your whole damn paycheck ... in lingerie! And spent a fortune on the credit card your grandma kindly gave you...

MY RIGHT TO REPLY

When I got home with my asymmetrical hair cut, you almost killed me! The next day you dragged me to another hairdresser and had her "fix" the damage. I was not even questioned if I wanted to keep the style or not. Thank God, because I had HATED that haircut, but I would die before admitting it was ridiculous. For pride, I would have kept it just like that.
My father did not give me the bike until I had enough money saved to buy it myself.  but this is a story for my next post! I spent many of my wages in lingerie ...And I do not remember that  credit card  being my grandma's gift. I thought I had gotten it with my first job. I also remember my dad paid that bill and never gave me a scolding. He just asked me to be careful with money from then on...

Third and mail

Funny how our memory fails  us so many times ... The same thing told by two or more people get different versions ...I also remember when I asked for your school transfer, they told me they would not accept you back the following year, and that's how"I found out about you being expelled.
You are right. It did not happened officially in Campinas, but it did happen the very next year in SAntos, your next school.
... not to mention when you hit a boy with a chair because he was bothering you.
Guess I'll write a book .... Our Memories ... '... if we write it by two hands will get very interesting!

MY COMMENTYes mother.Your memory is falling you. I was never expelled from Campinas, and you never heard it from them, as it never, ever really happened. I almost got kicked out the next year, but again the expulsion would not have been fair. They wanted me out because I was doing the English test for a colleague who spoke only French - not a word of English. I was sorry for him, wanted to help.  I should have gotten a medal, not an expulsion threat.
I also remember it was thank to you they reconsidered their decision to expell me. they gave me a week suspension and took me back.

Docovim II - a terapia continua! Teen years - getting it all out!

Nessas indas e vindas, aprendi a ser flexivel, a me adaptar , aprendi a "me virar". Aprendi a me apegar rapidamente e me desapegar com a mesma rapidez.
Sempre me senti diferente.
As vezes eu ficava triste, outras eu nao me importava.
Eu nao is a night clubs.

**********************************************

In my first 17 years I lived in many different cities.Sao Paulo ( still a baby), Campinas, Tremembe, Sao Vicente (2 x), Taubate, Campinas (3 times), Aguas de Lindoia  and Lindoia. There were 11 changes of city (and consequently schools). My parents had an adventurous spirit that must have passed to me. With all these comings and goings, I learned to be flexible, to quickly adapt to change. I learned to get attached to things and people quite fast and let go just as quickly.
I still have friends from my teen years, but they are not many.I would normally pick one friend (in each city where I lived) and spend most of my time with her.
Despite the changes, discoveries and learnings, I always felt like an outsider. I always felt different.I also heard I was different. I spent years trying to understand this "difference" but I was never willing to change who I am or how I do things. All I wanted was to unedrstand.
Even today I hear  I'm different. I still do not have the slightest idea what people are talking about.I've always been very popular with boys. I could pick and choose whatever boyfriend I wanted, but the female friendships were not in abundance (and I confess I never cared about it - I only realize  it today).
I lived a busy life, I was always out and about, doing lots of things at once, but i was not a night girl. I remember spending lots of time horse riding, kaiaking, swimming, chatting and some more time alone, in front of the TV.
I am still a lil like that. I love having lots of people around, but sometimes I have to hide and spend some time with myself.
Despite the constant changes, I was a good student. I had good grades, even though sometimes my behavior was not outstanding.
I scaped to eat fresh food from the street market, I sunbathed on the  school's roof top, I skived and hid within the school, in the most unlikely places (like teachers' lounge or teacher's bathroom only to see if I was caught).
One year, my best friend was expelled from school for bad behavior (she was always caught, I never was - and she never told on me). That year, my family moved to another city and I told everyone I got kicked out of school foe misbehaving.  It was not true, but I even convinced my parents I was expelled. At least I felt loyal to my friend ( who was really expelled).
This is the first time my mother hear about it. See, mum? I was better behaved than you thought!Today, in retrospective, I think I was all talk and no action.I loved (love?) to mantain the image of  a fearless, irreverent girl, but in the end of the day, I think I was just a normal, ordinary girl.
During my teen years, I only got drunk once. My father grounded me for six months - but never even told me I was being punished. We simply stopped going to Lindoia on our weekends. We lived in Campinas and I was 15.
My mother, trying to "protect me" read my diaries, rummaged through my drawers, opened my letters .The more she annoyed me with this kind of behavior, , the more I posed as "bad girl".
At one point she became convinced I took drugs because I had "pothead hair."
In fact my hair was a bit unconventional. I did not use combs, brushes or drugs. I was disheveled, not a pothead.
Tody, being a mother, wonder how my mother managed to mix up the twothings.
Looking back, I think I did not comb my hair as a sign of rebellion. When I was little, my mom made me wear long hair. At the age of 10 my hair reached my bum. Despite not being religious, I think I looked like a believer ( one of those who can never cut their hair).
I remember the times I got lice, it was hell to clean up that long hair, the suffering to untangle it every morning, how hard it was to comb or wash it.
As soon as I was old enough to take care of my own life,  I cut my hair very short, like a boy. Then I let it grow  again, but never combed. I would wash is, run my fingers to untangle it and was ready.
I guess I was a pretty teenager and boys were interested in me.I dated a lot. Thankfully, at that time courtships were innocent and inconsequential. My mother, so worried trying to control ever movement I made, did not even realize my escapades to meet my boyfriends. She was too worried about my pothead hair.
At 17, I moved from Aguas de  Lindoia to Campinas ( a much bigger city), to go to university. I was the youngest person in my class. Besides being a grade ahead academically, I passed the entrance exam without prep. My mother packed her suitcase and moved with me, her intention was to make sure  I would not do "anything wrong".
A year later, unsatisfied by "only" living with me, she decided to go back to uni and enrolled in a  tourism degree, in the same block where I was studying journalism. We became university "colleagues". Can anyone believe it?
As a teen I did not go to night clubs. I went out to bars, but I was not a party animal.
I was still very close to my grandma, but she was battling cancer and the desease seemed to be winning.
At 18 I decided I would be a biker - and my father warned me he would never buy me a bike. He would buy me a car if I wanted, but a bike was out of question.
My only option was to transfer my course to the night shift and get a job.
The bike would come, one way or another ...
