- Ah! Ok. Então a gente honra.
Facilita encontrar o carro se ele for roubado. $ 300.
+++++++++++++++++++++
I've joked enough about the car I got as a present but did not get to drive yet, so now I will complain a lil about how difficult it is to get a car in USA.
I was amazed by the bureaucracy involved.
The dealerships advertise the car for a price on the internet, but try to charge you on average $ 3,000 more when you get there to see it.
When you mention you saw the announcement on the internet, the answer is usually the same:
- Ah! Ok So we will honor it. We need to have ads with low prices to attract customers to the store - but those prices are too low (what??)
Some dealerships "create" compulsory extras. Eg
- As it is very hot here, every car that is sold on this dealership, have to have the tires filled with nitrogen instead of air. It costs $ 600.
- All our cars have that special identification on the windows. It is easy to find the car if it is stolen. $ 300. Our cars are not sold without the identification number. It is for your protection.
- All our cars have a special warranty. They're $ 2000 more expensive, but you know what you're buying.
When you see the advertised price, do not forget that you have around 10% more in taxes. Unless you buy the car from a private owner.
Insurance
This is a nightmare!
We need to insure the car before leaving the dealership, but it is not as simple (or cheap) as it should be:
- You do not have an Arizona driver's license? We do not want to insure your car! and they hang up the phone ...
- For you to be insured with us, you must have an Arizona driver's license for at least three years.
- And if I don't?
- Then we are not interested ...
As soon as we found a company that agreed to do our insurance, we had to pay a lot more (what a surprise)
We brought proof that we had no accidents in the last 5 years and an official letter from our insurance provider in Bahrain - no one cared!
Financing
We found several companies that agreed to finance cars for us. Interest of 15% per year (the interest here is around 4% at the moment).
The reason?
We have no credit history. Never had debts in the USA before.
And once again, we brought with us, evidence that we had paid our bills on time both in New Zealand and in Bahrain for the last 5 years. Totally irrelevant.
And all we wanted was a loan of 20% of the value of the car!
Yes, we are legal in the country, but that does not seem to make much of a difference. I wonder how expensive and difficult are the lives of thousands of illegal immigrants who live here and support this economy!
