LIA

Hoje a minha filha fez 16 anos.
Te desejo toda a felicidade do mundo.

Today my daughter turned 16 . I remember so vividly,  the day she came into this world. So small , so beautiful , her eyes so expressive . Lia carried in her a thousand lives.
I remember putting my hand on her belly when she cried  and that would make all her afflictions go away. Time passed , the pains changed , and a mother's hand ceases to be miraculous, Unfortunately !
I remember every smile in her childhood , every cute thing she said, every expression. I remember the sweetness with which she always treated others, and how loyal and dedicated of a  friend she has always been.
I remember her wanting to cut her hair to donate to a friend who had cancer and would lose her's to chemo.
I remember her crossing an avenue , packed with 400 war tanks coming from Saudi to calm friend who was scared . She was 12. And did not fear for her life.
I remember the endless laughter and so many first experiences.
Her first night ,  first bath ,  first feeding ,  first smile ,  first baby food , the first stinky poop ( poop from breast milk is not stinky ! ) , The first trips ,  first wave she jumped ,  first dive at sea , the first snorkel ... so many experiences , so many discoveries ...
But the clock does not stop  and my little girl is now a young woman .
A gorgeous soul who brings within her the same sweetness of her childhood . She carries in her heart the music of  a thousand angels .
My little girl , I'll always be by your side . I'll always be with you and I  want to be in the front row of all your achievements .
I wish you all the happiness in the world. A life full of new experiences and magic .

The world is no doubt a better place with you !

I will love you forever and I'm very proud of the wonderful person you have become !

I am opening a new business and I am going crazy with renovations, contracts, , bureaucracies in general . In the midst of this hustle and bustle , suppliers are knocking at my door , trying to sell their products .
According to our franchise agreement , my food supplier is Sysco . On the first day , I was visited by their salesman, we have established a good working relationship and he has helped me ever since.
Two weeks later , another guy from Sysco shows up . A strange guy, who seems to be wearing makeup . Nothing drag queen like , but a light makeup nonetheless (yes , I'm talking about a guy , working, visiting clients at day light ) .
I was polite , said I had already set up my account and was working with someone else. His reply :
- I have more experience in this area , I am better than him. You have to call and ask to change your Sysco representative, so I can help you.
I did not even blink :
- Of course ! All I need to do is back stab your coworker who has been very efficient and friendly ! Give me the number ... I'll do it right now !

Hope he got the message ...

Gemeas / Twins

+++++++

Remember those girls I always mention? One is 17 and the other one is 15. Another day, they decided to go to the movies and only when they got there, they realized the movie was rated 17 and up.
The older kid did not even blink:
- hi! My sister and I are twins - but she forgot her ID. You can check mine though...
- Sorry, I need to call the manager.
The manager comes, look at them and says:
- It is pretty obvious you are twins...please come in!

TATTOO

Random mum daughter conversation in a tattoo parlor:
- Darling, get a tattoo with some color!
- No. I want it black.
- But with color it will look so much better...
- Nope. I really want it black.
- But...
- Mum, I don't want it. I Want a phoenix, not a peacock!!!

At this point the tattoo lady interrupts us them and say:

- Who would like a peacock tattooed on their body, right?

And they did not even need to look to know she had the most enormous peacock tattooed all over her arm...
A pretty peacock, I must say!

tal mãe, tal filhas... like mum like daughters

- O GOXTOSA!!
Nada disso. As cantadas eram sutis e engraçadas.

++++++++

I remember travelling from Camberra to Sydney to go to the Mardi Grass in Australia. It is one of the biggest gay parades - and I just had to go!
I went alone and remember how safe I felt. I was mesmerized by all the worlds mixed in that street. People from all walks of life, that shared only one ideal - EQUALITY.
The year was 2000 and the mote was " legalize gay adoption". I went out on the streets, campaigned, took lots and lots of pictures and was flattered by some women who flirted with me.
Nothing like what we experience sometimes when men are flirting. No aggressive pun lines, no disrespectful comments about my boobs or bum. All quite light and elegant - I dare say.
Today both my girls went to the gay parade here in Phoenix, and I could not remember my own experience when they both came back with stories of fun, interesting jokes in a very safe environment.
The only difference was they were both approached by heterosexual guys too...

Me explica! Please tell me!

Eu sou forte. Aguento a verdade.

Do I look stupid?
You, my friends , can tell me . I am strong. I can handle the truth .
I spent a month in Miami learning how to handle an industrial kitchen. I am soon opening a new franchise and need to know the operations inside out. from cooking to acquiring clients and managing accounts...  I spent two weeks in the kitchen and two weeks in the office and call center .
I can not cook. Not even to save my life ( or someone else's) , my two weeks in the kitchen were super fun. I got amused by the most simple tasks. Slicing tomatoes was a mammoth task, but I persevered. I tried, I failed, I tried again and I confess I got better, but ... still come out without knowing how to cook .
There are things that require talent, and cooking is not one of mine. It is now proved.
After the first two weeks , I had to take an overall test. There were questions about everything I 've seen / done / learned during those two weeks .
Those were tense moments .No one thought I could do it. .
I took the test and did very well.
I was happy and I confess , proud of my result. It was funny to see the surprise on everyone's faces.
Then I went to the office and spent two more weeks there.
I learned a little of everything at the back office , but spent most of the time in a call centre - area where I have lots of experience .
I have managed various call centers , it was for many years, my bread and butter .
I noticed some tension on the day of my test but did not think twice about it. tests mean nothing to me, so I did not really care much.
I took the test , and when I left the room ,I left screaming :
- You are terrible teachers . I flunked and it was all your fault, as none of you taught me anything ...
Instead of hysterical laughter , there was a deathly silence .
The Director of Human Resources , who was bolder, probably because of her position,  asked for one of the franchise partners :
- Was it that bad ?
- Not at all , she passed with merit ...
And without realizing what she was doing, she had a huge sight of relieve :
- SERIOOOOOUSLY ? ? ? ?

When she realized what she had just done, she apologized profusely . And  it ocurred to me that no one really thought i would make it.
They were all concerned I would fail the test. The office test. the call centre test...
Some people came to me with concern in their voice:  you don't pay any attention...ever... how could you do so well?
I was even told they thought I have ADHD.

Bottom line : nobody has any faith in me there.

Just for kicks , I convinced the franchise partner to lie to the other two partners and convince them I had really failed .
I played my failure part so well, I even asked for a franchise fee refund, as I declared myself incapable of running this business.

I may look stupid, but no one can challenge my sense of humor. I made fun of them for a couple of hours before I finally told them I was joking...

A mala ...e outras coisinhas / my suitcase...and other stuff

O taxista doido pra conversar. Eu maluca pra ele calar a boca!
Trancada. Toco a campainha. Nada. Toco de novo. Nada. Trancada. Começo a tocar a campainha histericamente. Nada.
Sento no chão e começo a chorar desesperada.
Ligo no telefone do fabio - caixa postal.

SQN!

++++++++++++++++++++++

I spent four weeks in Miami , in a course ( I will tell you all about it later...) . I arrive in Phoenix at midnight , exhausted !
First I find out that my suitcase went missing . The bag is over 65 pounds and it has all my course manuals, all my text books and my personal stuff ...
I fill out paperwork , take a taxi and go home .
The crazy taxi driver wants to talk . I want him to shut up !
I get home at 2 am, craving for a bath and a cozy bed to sleep in. My bed. After 4 weeks that's all I need My family and I  agreed  the door would be left unlocked.
I try to open the door .Locked . I ring the bell . No one comes . I ring it  again. Nothing . I walk around the house and go to the back door . Locked . I start ringing the bell hysterically . No response.I try to call and realize  my phone run out of battery. It is 2:15 and I have nowhere to go , I can not go inside, I am exhausted and don't know what to do, so I sit by the door and start crying desperately.
I am tired , sore , have no suitcase , spent a month away from home  and feel abandoned and uncared for. I cry. Cry. Cry some more. Soon the neighbors will wake up - I am so loud.
Then I remember American homes have a power outlet outside . I get my charger ( still crying ) and charge the phone .
Fabio's phone goes straight to his inbox
I call Anita  and  I remember her phone died in a bathtub accident
Lia does not pick hers up either
I call my mother in law . No answer .
I start the process from the begining.
Nobody answers again.
It is now 2:25 in the morning.
Not knowing what else to do , I start kicking and banging on the door furiously . Half of me hopes someone hears me , the other half is just bat shit mad.
Suddenly I hear :
- I am coming ...
And my mother in law opens the door , followed by Fabio and then Anita , looking me with that look:
Really? Did you need to make such a fuss?

Inaie , you're home ! You were truly missed. Not.
