E eu respondo o que?

Parte do meu trabalho e "net working".

It only happens to me

This week I was in a business lunch with a big cheese from an english bank, also based in Bahrain. The CEO and I were eating pasta and discussing work issues when he simply slapped my juice glass who fell right on my pasta bowl.

I had no idea wat to say, but before I had the chance to open my mouth, he said:

- i am terribly sorry, but I never eat strawberry gnochi, I have to try it.

And he just took a bite of his new creation.

- nah, it does not work. don't eat it!

I laughed, the atmosphere went back to normal and I understood why he is the CEO and I will never be.

Qaundo ele diz:

- Voce vai me desculpar, mas eu nunca comi gnochi com morangos.

Enfiou o garfo no meu prato e experimentou a meleca recem criada.

- Eh, nao come nao. Nao ficou bom.

Motherhood

When Anita was born, my Heart and my soul were filled with joy, just as it happens to all mothers who have just brought another child to the world.
That overwhelming feeling, that the world could stop now, that nothing else matters...
And with these strong and deep emotions, comes the realization that you were once loved like that too.

With time you become just like your mum and your grandma, and start saying things like:

- wait until you are a mother...
Now I am entering a whole new phase. I am a teenager's mum.

Another magicmoment, other discoveries, different learnings. This time your kid is subjected to much more external influences than ever before.

You see your kid grow wings, make decisions for themselves, choose things that are going to forge their future and it doesn't matter how much you want to be part of it all, you're nothing but a mere observer. A facilitator maybe, but not more than that.

My oldest daughter is choosing her high school subjects. These choices will help shape her  future, her college, her career. And I see her torn between cooking and business. Cooking wins. My heart sinks. Two weeks later she changes her mind and course. Business it is. Phew ...

I know the decisions are now hers, i can only make suggestions, but it is hard to just sit and watch.

Maternidade

- Quando voce for mae voce vai entender...
Pois agora eu entro numa nova fase. A de mae de adolescente.
Outra fase magica, outras descobertas, outros ensinamentos.

A culinaria vence. meu coracao aperta.

A casa nova/ Our new home

Pronto!

Venham me visitar. Aqui sempre ha lugar pros amigos.

Done! We are officially in the new house.
There are boxes everywhere, the house is a mess, but funny enough, we are all feeling at home.
In the middle of this war zone ( the house, not the continent) we found our scape, our space.and there is no better feeling!

Come and visit us. We always have space for good friends.

NOT LEARNING

On my last post, I was complaining about the shitty chain of errors that surround our life in the Middle East and the inability some people have to admit they do not know / do not understand / can not do something.

Yesterday we were finally leaving the flat and moving into the new house.

Of course there was a clown who parked on the sidewalk blocking my car. I called the watchman to call the owner and get te car removed. Minutes later, the watchman came with the car keys (sounds familiar? If it does not, have a quick read of my previous post ...).

Then he gets into the car, put it in neutral (automatic car) and brrrrrrrr brrrrrrrr ... .... keeps accelerating like a madman, not understanding that the car will not move.

Suddenly he changes gear, the car jumps and dies. Then he reverse it, the car jumps back and die again. And this crap continues forever, until I lose my patiance, get out of the car and tell him:

- Look, you do not know how to drive. You will crash this car like the other watchman did yesterday. It will cause problems for you. Go back inside, call the owner of the car and tell him to move it.
- Madame, you move it.

- Not way in hell. Go back inside, call the owner of the car and tell him to move it.

And the watchman ignored me and went back to his little routine. BRRRRRR BRRRRRRRR .... ..... leaps forward, dies, reverse,  leaps backwards, dies. I was about to give up. I picked up a book and started reading, when a pedestrian felt sorry for him and moved the car.
I left that building to never go back, but I know many other accidents will happen because the tenants are lazy, irresponsible ( bkocking people) and the watchmen are not brave enough to recognise their limitations.

Sad, sad...
